According to Nvidia, you can enjoy the benefits of owning a super-fast Nvidia Geforce RTX 5080 Gaming GPU without handing over the huge sums of your new graphics card. The company just added Nvidia geforce now The RTX 5080 tier says it can run the game at 360FPS without suffering from incubation issues towards streaming services.
Nvidia’s senior marketing manager Andrew Fear described the move towards us at a press conference as “one of the biggest updates we’ve ever had in Geforce’s history and being a major step forward.” As found in the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 review, this GPU is extremely strong, but the lack of competition with AMD also benefits from the lack of competition in the market sector. That 360fps figure was achieved with an Overwatch 2 of 1,920 x 1,080, and Nvidia says it measured latency in just 30 milliseconds (from mouse clicks to results that appear on screen to results known as Click-to-Photon).
This is a prominent result for game streaming services, and Nvidia argues that it is possible thanks to its work on improving latency. Naturally, this includes the company’s low-latency reflection technology, but Nvidia is working with ISPs such as BT Group, Comcast and T-Mobile to incorporate L4S (low-latency, low-loss) technology into its service to prevent Packets from dropping when they run right now and improve their potential. The fear told us at a press conference: “Make it feel like a local gaming PC.”
Nvidia also said the service allows you to play games at 1440p at 240fps and at 5k at up to 120fps. However, this 2.8x number is achieved using Multi-Frame GEN, a new part of NVIDIA DLSS 4, which uses AI to generate three additional frames for every frame truly rendered by the GPU.
It works well in the right situations, but it’s not a magical fix for poor performance either. For example, if the game is running at 120fps on a multi-frame GEN, the original frame rate is between 30 and 40fps.
While only 20 games will be available for tier when the RTX 5080 GeForce is released, Nvidia says it will add more games each week. Perhaps more than anything, it costs $19.99, the same price as the current RTX 4080 tier, so it won’t cost any more to upgrade to the new Top Tier. The Nvidia GeForce Now RTX 5080 service is scheduled to be rolled out in September 2025.
Nvidia says it’s a suite of technology called Movie Quality Streaming (CQS), which has significantly improved image quality for its game streaming services with this latest update.
These include Yuv 4:4:4 Chroma. This means that full-color accuracy is obtained because no color information is subsampled in the stream to improve bandwidth. Also, Colors is given a boost with HDR10 and SDR10 support, but Nvidia says that using AV1 video codecs using reference image resampling (RPR) will result in a stable stream with smooth resolution shifts.
There is also an AI video filter. This says Nvidia will bring cleaner movements in the game stream, noise and distracting artifacts, which will ensure a faster 100Mbps bitrate and avoid losing details. Nvidia showed the difference by providing a comparison screenshot of black mythical turmeric on and off CQS. It has a sharper, blurry image on, but you need to look closely to see the differences in the details of the treatment trunk.
Other new features that appear in GeForce include a new handheld mode. This allows you to maximize screen refresh rates for Lenovo Legion Go S and Steam Deck at 90FPS and 120Hz, respectively. Nvidia currently supports Logitech Racing wheels using GeForce’s Haptics, as well as the LG 4K TV with Geforce’s HDR and the LG 4K TV with LG 5K OLED TVS at 120FPS.
It also adds new installation-only features that run on over 2,200 Steam games (only Steam is the service), doubles the size of your GeForce Now game library. Using a high-speed NVMESH storage system that Nvidia states “provides locally-like performance”, it says it can get 100GB of single-session cloud storage and install these additional games on the service.
However, this storage is only longer for that session by default, and you will need to reinstall the game afterwards. Alternatively, you can pay additional money to the “permanent storage” system that keeps the game installation. These are $2.99/£2.69 for 200GB, $4.99/£4.49 for 500GB, or $7.99/£6.99 for 1TB of storage. Nvidia describes the new service as “a great feature for demos.”
