I regularly oppose my best consumer instincts and check out the annual iterations of sports games. That’s not what I do without the magic of a steam press account. Usually you can dodge the annual cash sacrifice for games that share a vast amount of DNA with their direct predecessors. The sense of Deja Vu is inevitable. Unless you’re wise enough to spend a few years or wait until you find a new feature that will intriguate you, it’s inevitable.
In NBA 2K26 there was one such addition in my mind. Those who want to watch the basketball series from a 2K ball have caught my attention by removing the invisible walls that have been placed between male and female basketball simulations for several years, and adding the WNBA player for the first time to one of the modes dominated by the marquee men. Certainly, it was MyTeam and the pit you settled down to buy trading cards that may have been cooked through something similar to a slot machine – you’ve branched out real or fake money or got over several hours of grinding.
But I at least have no stopping them from trying. Given the nature of basketball, we thought that mixing the WNBA Baller and NBA Giants could potentially provide a more unique contrast than playing with mixed teams at EA Sports FC, as heights focus on determining different playstyles and tight teamwork requirements.
In fact, I was not disappointed. I chose a starter pack that offers the entire WNBA Seattle Storm lineup and built it with a short-term high overall lowny that leaned towards women rather than men, making the youth work on my lineup.
Over the course of several breakouts and triple threat park matches, most of which minimized margins of error despite less formal trapping, which proved to be satisfactory and difficult to mix baller gender. Naturally, the average NBA team can have a height advantage in any matchup, secure rebounds and score close to the basket. So you need to lean towards skill and speed by finding a way to quickly win a straight on the rim during the transition (or after breaking the defender’s ankle), or finding ways to rely on shots from afar.
Regarding the former, I had a lot of fun in Jordin Canada. That relentless pace and fantastic handle make her feel like a 5-foot 6 Allen Iverson. With three of us, I relied on Kera McBride, and the best all-around package I found was Kelsey Plum with a superior 89 rating in both of those regions. As for Trios Squad, we worked with Plum and McBride with 85-rate Moses Malone (inside the tutorial) to balance the region with the inside presence and rebounding skills of the retro Big Man, where even taller WNBA players like Angel Reese tend to struggle.
Unfortunately, I found that the teams I opposed, whether it was AI or player control, tend to be primarily a broke. With a CPU-controlled opponent, I think it could be that if someone decides to play in three forwards or centers, a team with heavy WNBA could be an easy win.
As for on-court action, what exploded those games was the 2K26 tweaking to film, rebound and movement. I have a more mixed view of the former, but it’s literally a hit or miss. Getting the perfect release, which shows that the meter turns green over the course of a few years, seems easy in many 2K26 modes. This is a good thing. Because the chances of making shots if you don’t release correctly in the queue seem to have been dramatically nerfed. As a result, you can go for a very satisfying run when the shot is falling, but it can sometimes feel impossible to be on the other side and try to crush the point. Do you want to keep the jumper timing to T and take part in a park match with someone with players who aren’t easy to block? You can also avoid attempting to defend yourself.
Playing with AI means less concern and it’s in MyPlayer mode when the game really starts singing. I chose to play as a center. He is the tallest and slowest player on the court, and generally spends most of his time physically getting close to the basket. The prolonged annoyance of rookie players begins as a boring, useless lump to control. You can only upgrade using cryptocurrency. I feel that cryptocurrency is intentionally shattered, and of course it is possible, so you can also use your actual money to buy it.

But once I got a decent baseline, I was flying through the air to catch a rebound. I used a new timing meter to make sure it was right in the right moment. The shaking under the rim feels wonderful and heavy, and scoring distance ranges via layups and post movements seems effective if you are keen on more than just a pure slam dunk merchant. A visual concept called “MyPlayer Freelance Engine” has greatly improved the off-ball intelligence of your AI teammates, making it much better to pick you up with a pass at the right time without stopping every time via repeated ball calls.
This leads me to this year’s MyPlayer mode story. These are relatively simple, often clichéd stories are designed to place a bit of story flesh in the bones of a short journey from the created baller Nobo to NBA heroes. Out of range, it certainly doesn’t disappoint in that respect. College basketball has returned to the map in terms of standalone games, thanks to athletes being ultimately paid for the use of names, images and portraits. So after playing several high school games in Remote Vermont, the 2K26 MyPlayer jet headed to Los Angeles and joined a club league that was treated like this as being more casual and not as casual as the college ball.
To be fair, a single four-game season is not the end of all by traveling to Europe on cards, aiming to raise stocks in the draft. Ah, I thought 2K had teams from real-world European basketball leagues in the past, have they returned? Sadly, it’s not. Instead, it rubs shoulders with Mirror Universe Real Madrid and more created players. At the very least, establishing a shot of cities like Malaga or Madrid makes things feel a little more realistic. 80% of player interactions are bragging or pouting until at a certain point it feels truly impossible, but that’s what you’re expecting. Ah, the storyline for the Madrid season is based largely around you who gain approval from GTA IV shamelessly torn Slovenian teammates.

I had enough shooting guard Roman Bellick, so I could bolt on various management modes of the 2K26. Understandable – I’ve spent a lot of time on the equivalents of previous NBA games just to be reprimanded after being constantly promoted. But this time, I’ll save you some problems: don’t mind. Whether it’s Mygm, Mywnba, or Mynba Eras mode, which is my only excuse to play over 30 hours of these games over the past decade, you’ll be disappointed with how far they’ve progressed.
There are a few small changes. There are a number of new GM scenarios to start, and many of the structure of annual ownership goals. A new expansion team in the form of the Golden State Valkyries. Options to slow down your Sims in your era are said to be smarter or are intended to speed up things and sacrifice the depth of computer thinking. The first two are fine, but the headliner is pretty much worth it.
On the other hand, the last one seems to have changed very little. Teams with abundant players in one position trade, draft and sign more players in that position without offloading one of the established crops and getting better elsewhere. During the offseason, very good players are left signed as computer teams were unable to effectively manage the cap room.
When it comes to WNBA Sims, that seems particularly problematic when many star players are in short-term trading. This means that many talents can be left at the table during the bidding war. The computer-made trade proposal seems a bit logical this time, but I still saw instances where the team pulls suspicious moves, such as trading one mid-round pick and multiple future first-round picks during the draft.

Overall, it’s a regular fridge full of good and bad ingredients, making soups with a slightly different flavor than last year, but not markedly superior. So unless there are specific changes you liked the sound, 2K26 is probably the year to skip. City Version – It is best put together by an exploreable hub where my players wander and take part in improvised street games. Rather than the incredibly luxurious city sprawl of 2K25, it features a pirate ship area, mecha workshops and a Michael Jordan-themed coliseum, this time almost everything is firmly packed into an unexplained shopping centre and park.
Am I against my instinct because this basketball game likes to prefer a huge pirate ship? Is this likely that the 2K25 still takes up about 50GB of hard drive space than the 100GB 2K26? Almost certainly, yes, but that’s what every year Sportsson can do for a man.
