wEll, people, the ambitious Final Fantasy XV-inspired action game Lost Soul is pretty much here and expectations are high. Development has been long and difficult, born from one developer and has grown into a studio of 40 people supported by Sony today. This character action RPG has leaned more into the hack and slash realm, but could potentially create waves like Expedition earlier this year. With so many new footage and information, there are some important details I would like to share about this upcoming indie title. Before you buy a Lost Soul aside, here are 15 things you need to know:
story
The plot of Lost Soul Arash wears Final Fantasy colours on its sleeves. There are evil empires that overthrow, sisters to rescue, and otherworldly dragons who have given special powers to heroes.
character
Our heroic lead, Kaser, partners with unlikely allies of the Empire and Resistance Group to confront a new dimension of threat: voidrax. But considering there’s unlikely a Dragon-like Void Rax named Arena, Void Rax may not be all bad.
Kayser’s sister will not remain absent throughout the game, considering her role early in the timeline. She joined Kayser at a rally with the Empire before the Voidrax invaded. It’s no surprise to see Kayser himself fit into a stylish, stoic archetype, and some party members meet the comedy foil and anti-hero character.
Inspired by Final Fantasy XV
When the Lost Soul Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa He particularly cites the fusion of fantasy and “reality” as a core theme. This can manifest in several ways. For example, it’s a more realistic place in Kayser’s contemporary costumes and gaming world.
Crystals are another major motif, with a heavy presence in marketing and world design (for example, Dragon Companion is made of crystal). It strengthens Final Fantasy DNA.
Linear Experience
One misconception that players may have is that the lost soul is on the side. Well, it’s confirmed that it’s not the case. It offers a linear story with widely exploreable areas and branching paths, but there is no vast sandbox. That said, traversal abilities gained through the arena, such as dash jumps, gliding, dragon flights, and even crystal hoverboards, can make exploration fun and dynamic. Hopefully the platform will remain clever and fluid without being too much trouble.
Weapon Type
With so many crossing abilities, players don’t rely solely on basic human jumps. Kaser’s Dragon Companion, Arena acts as his traversal tool, in addition to his choice of four weapons. When you use a Crystal Dragon as a hoverboard, did you think it would be cool to use a Crystal Wall Riding Platform? Look at weapons that could change the arena.
Arena can be transformed into four different weapons: pole blade, scisse, great sword, and one-handed sword. The sword acts as a ninja-like class that prioritizes quarters near slices and dicing. The Great Sword is superior with its pure weight that will rock your opponents to the ground with a slower, more determined strike. Pole blades are certainly four range options that will hit your enemies with bullets and remote slash strikes. Players may prefer scy as it appears to be a difficult all-in-one choice for masters if they are eager to mix different weapon types. Want to exchange weapons during battle? There’s no need to worry. Seamlessly switching between the four types is smooth as butter and lends new combos to the fight.
Weapon Skills
Each weapon has a maximum of four active skills mapped. These range from explosions of energy on the pole blades to aerial strikes at the skewed speed of the sword. The lost soul certainly does not underestimate diversity or visual talent.
Skill Tree
The weapon’s abilities are further enhanced through the character skill tree. The full layout has not been revealed, but it includes classic RPG mainstays such as passive buffs, stat boosts and unlocks obtained through experience points earned in combat.
Weapon Customization
Progression is further driven by fragments of collectible weapons seen throughout the game. These can be used to customize the appearance of weapons and upgrade specific skills. It remains to be seen whether these fragments can be interchangeably applied to different weapon types.
Parry and evasion
As a stylish action game in the vein of Metal Gear Rising Revengeance, it is essential that lightning dodge fast. However, the lost soul is aside and aside, and does not require the accuracy that can be seen in Sekiro and P.’s lies. But I’m still here. It’s not as much needed as Software-Adjacent games.
Combo Burst Mechanics
The depth of the battle comes from the mechanics called fluid combo chains and combo bursts. Each combo has a specific “burst” moment that increases attack power when timing correctly. To perform a burst, the player must take time to press a button at a certain time in the combo. It’s fun to master the rhythms of each different weapon and combo.
Fusion gauges mix combat with meter to allow the arena, the Dragon’s friend, to cover the claws on the enemy in a variety of ways. This fusion ability can be upgraded and expanded along with the skills and abilities of other weapons, providing a fairly wide repertoire to play.
PC requirements
To put the lost soul aside, players need to reserve 80 GB of storage space for installation. Minimum requirements include a Core i5-10400 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 CPU, an NVIDIA GTX 1060 or AMD RX 5500 XT GPU, and 16 GB RAM. To maximize graphical and performance possibilities, players need a core i7-11700 or Ryzen 7 5700x CPU, an RTX 3070 or RX 6800 XT GPU, and the same 16 GB of RAM with a lower setting. Of course, Ray Tracing can use visuals with dynamic crystals, but requires an ultra setting. Ultra Ray Tracing requires an I7-13700K or Ryzen 7 7800X CPU, an RTX 5070 TI GPU, and once again 16 GB of RAM.
PC-specific features
In addition to Ray Tracing, PC gamers are looking forward to 4K visuals using unlocked frame rates. Publishers also share “performance boost technology” for PC versions, and strongly suggests DLSS and/or AI-assisted frame generation. Ah, and do you want to feel the advanced tactile sensation that PS5 users can experience? Now, the DualSense controller is fully compatible with the PC version.
No PSN account is required for PC
PC players don’t think that the lost soul is mandatory to play on PC, so they can have a cake and eat it. This knowledge comes from the Steam page, which has recently deleted lost souls, with the PSN requirements completely removed.
PS5 Pro support confirmed
Although the details are missing, the lost souls on the PS5 Pro are strengthened aside. Like any other pro support game, expect visual improvements and frame rates. However, there is no exclusive content other than a technical upgrade.
Pricing and Platform
Lost Souls will be released on August 29th for PS5 and PC. The regular edition costs $59.99, while the Digital Deluxe Edition costs $69.99. Digital Deluxe owners get a digital soundtrack with three weapon fragment skins, arena skins, health boosters, XP boosters and game codes.
