verdict

With electrically adjustable lumbar support, the Libernovo Omni brings a new level of convenience to the world of comfortable office chairs. However, some wobbling parts, including particularly exciting armrests, stop the appeal of this extremely expensive gaming chair.

Strong Points

  • Excellent long-term comfort
  • Electronic lumbar adjustment is very convenient
  • Mainly solid build quality
  • Smart design
  • Actions similar to lumbar massage mode
Cons

  • Very expensive
  • The armrest cannot be locked in place
  • Some wobble parts
  • The range of sitter sizes is limited

Libernovo is a whole new name for the office and gaming chair market, and the company is present in its first product, Chair Omni’s Kickstarter campaign. Big selling points Libernovo Everything It is an electrically adjustable lumbar support, and the manufacturer says it is the first “dynamic ergonomic” chair.

This is to make sure you adjust the support of this chair more than the dozens of other chairs I have reviewed over the years, but that alone isn’t enough to quickly win this chair’s spot in our best gaming chair guide. So we used this new Libernovo model to see how real-world use is maintained, using eight hours of work during the day and several hours of gaming and video watching in the evening.

Assembly, Design, and Building Quality

Arrives in a heavy but moderately compact box – Compared to the huge box that Herman Miller X Logitec has arrived, the Libernovo Omni is a chair that requires assembly. However, it doesn’t make any sense to build it over most other chairs. A driver will be provided that will do the job to install the total of the four bolts needed to make everything fit. It took about 20 minutes to unravel everything and assemble everything while filming the process. Order matching footrests and arrive individually in small boxes for easy assembly.

Once assembled, rather than a chair that explicitly sells itself as a gaming chair, like the office-centric chair we reviewed, the Libernovo Omni is a modest looking chair with a simple grey color scheme (the company describes as midnight black – the alternative space grey is a very light gray).

However, the design is light, but not simple. Turn this chair and greet you with an ultra-complicated look set, including flexible back support levers, wires and more. It all combines and offers electric operation, flexible, adjustable bags, and quickly responds to detailed details. Importantly, this all adds complications, but the chair still looks sophisticated and smart.

However, one area where this chair doesn’t immediately impress you is with its build quality. It’s far from the worst wob haughty chair I’ve reviewed, and some aspects of it are very well constructed – the key structural plastic elements, such as the wheels, legs, and waist support arms, all feel very solid – but many parts are a little loose or don’t inspire confidence.

For example, the headrests and armrests all wobble quite a bit. Setting this $1,000 chair against the $2,000 Herman Miller X Logitech Embody is not a completely fair comparison, but the pure solidity of that chair really stands out when used one after another. Suitable for these parts are more typical of chairs that can be purchased for under $500.

Another part that caught my eye is the tilt adjustment controls that need to be slotted into place when assembling the chair. It is secured to a round plastic piece, which is rotated to guide the plastic lock pin (see above). It feels like it can work loosely over time without engaging in a particularly positive and safe way.

But most of all, the problem with pure build quality/FIT is that, as a seeming design option, ensure that the ARMREST width and swivel adjustments don’t lock properly. Instead, a rather light knock can move them. If you lean a little or push yourself up with your hands, the armrests will spread outwards, simply pulling the chair towards the desk or tilting it, and the top will spin from you. It’s not enough to quickly ruin this chair experience, but it’s not the best system I’ve ever encountered. At least padding the armrests isn’t as difficult as some chairs.

Features

Looking at the features this chair offers in more detail, the back and seats cover the fabric rather than using a mesh suspension system or providing leather/faux leather covers. The fabric is fire resistant, but does not spill easily like mesh or leather covers.

It also gets an adjustable height and depth headrest with this chair, finished in the same padding and fabric style as the rest of the chair.

On the other hand, the armrests are permanently mounted on either side of the chair (such as the Serclette Love Titan Evo has removable armrests), providing free-to-variation width and pivot adjustments. Next, there are three buttons on the inside edge of the left armrest, as well as an LED to control the back support.

These controls consist of forward buttons that prompt a pneumatic cylinder behind the chair when pressed, pushing a series of arms and supporting the lumbar vertebrae towards you. Pressing the back button will pull the piston back again, but adding more buttons will keep the piston pushing out constantly and then back again, reducing the effect of the massage chair that lowers the waist.

Other major controls set the tilt and height adjustment of the chair. These sit right in front of the seat, the former being a vertical silver bar, offering maximum rear tilt of up to four different levels. Libernovo describes the four reclining positions as deep focal points (fully upright), solo work, soft reclining, and spinal flow (fully reclining). In the latter position you will lie almost completely flat.

The seat height adjustment system uses a standard gas lift. Pull the lever while you are seated and the chair will fall off. If you pull without putting your weight on the chair, it will rise. The final point of adjustment is the seat-based rotating knob that controls the resistance of the tilt system.

To power the electric lumbar system, the chair also has a rechargeable (via USB-C) battery conveniently packaged in a plastic housing that is simply slotted in and pulled out from the side of the seat. Despite having onboard power, this chair does not have RGB lighting.

Adjustability and comfort

Let’s chase it. Electronic lumbar adjustment on this chair is a great feature. It’s very convenient that you can fine-tune the feel of the chair with just the touch of a button. If you’re a bit whimpering in a particular position, you don’t have to get out of the chair and move that part, and you can adjust the support without cranking down with the adjustment knob and lever.

Massage mode is also a little extra, convenient. It’s far from a proper face-to-face massage or a half-massage alternative to a massage mat that fits a regular chair, but it offers a welcome way to stretch a little and move your back without getting up from the chair.

Obviously, for overall health, in general you are better off standing up and walking regularly from your office or gaming chair or having stretches, but if you really need to plow through work, or in the middle of a gaming session, it is a convenient option. That being said, over time I found that I would use it less and less and less, and once I found a preference setting I had a tendency to just set it and forget.

My initial impression was not good in terms of general comfort. The seats felt too short. The lumbar support didn’t sit as I expected – it didn’t lean straight up against the small things on my back as I’m used to – and the headrest seemed to push my head too far forward. The reclining position also felt a bit troublesome.

However, in most cases, I learned how to actually adjust the headrest depth, learn the position I like in the back support, and look into the need to change the back support and headrest positions regularly for various reclining positions, and the chair has become much more comfortable.

For example, the depth of the seat base cannot be adjusted, so it felt a little short on the 6’2” frame. However, the curvature falling to the front edge and moderately deep padding meant that I didn’t really feel any pressure points or that the blood was being cut off at the leading edge of the seat, less than I expected.

Similarly, Lumbar’s support didn’t feel like I was sitting the way I liked, but in reality it did a good job providing consistent support.

That said, I still find this chair too small for me. It is rated for sitters ranging from 5’2” to 6’3” (158-190cm) and weighs up to 300lb (136kg). Meanwhile, my 5’2” colleague discovered that the chair was an instant hit despite being at the bottom edge of the size limit.

When it comes to footstools, it’s a small enough extra to provide a raised platform on your feet and a cushioned top to rest your feet when you’re sitting. However, I feel that the build is very plastic, very bulky and benefits from it being equipped with casters and simple means to move them. There is no particular value for the chair.

price

Omni’s Kickstarter backers were able to pre-order the unit as low as $650, but the full retail price is $1,099. The company also offers an initial discount at launch, which means it will win a chair for $850, which will only run until October 2025.

This makes this a particularly expensive office/game chair, with most premium options usually sitting in the $500-800 range and only taking more outliers. The extra electronics definitely increase the cost, so we expect to pay a premium for that, but some of the wobbling quality is a disappointment at this price.

Alternatives

Herman Miller x Logitech Embody

If you’re talking about a serious premium office chair with a subtle grey design and clever and flexible back support, the Herman Miller X Logitech is an obvious comparison. It’s much better than the Liber Novo, and barely noticeable wobbling, but it’s almost twice as expensive and does not come with headrests or electronics. For more information, see the Herman Miller X Logitech Embody Review.

SecretLab Titan Evo 2022

The SecretLab Titan Evo is a go-to gaming chair recommendation for most buyers as it is available in a vast range of designs and sizes, while balanced well with a balance of comfort, upgradeability and versatility. Its waist support is smartly not anywhere near, and it’s a very large chair, but the starting price at $549 is much more affordable than the Omni.

Fractal polish

The halfway point between Omni’s more compact office chair style and most of the Titan Evo, Fractal Refine is a larger chair with integrated headrests, but with a slim cushion shape and a much more rational and elegant design than the Titan Evo. Additionally, it can be used in both fabric and mesh designs. Half of the Omni price offers comparable comfort, but lacks a completely flat reclining and an electric lumbar system.

verdict

The Libernovo Omni is a curated egg on a chair. That part is good. Its innovative back support system is closer to a game changer thanks to its ability to provide a very quick and easy way to adjust back support, as well as providing a slightly back-lengthening massage mode. It is also a stylish chair and takes time to feel comfortable, but the Omni proves to be suitable for long-term sitting sessions, if not a comfortable revelation.

However, its waist support position is not as adjustable as more traditional systems, and in addition to lacking seat length adjustment, its armrests and headrests are one of the most flops around, the former leading to constant stimulation, and there is a considerable amount of the chair. I used a gaming chair that costs half the money, with a much safer overall vibe.

It all becomes a chair that is struggling to recommend spending $1,099. If you back up this chair Kickstarter for $650, it represents a very good value (if you have lower back support). But at that whole price, the wobble reminds me of a much cheaper chair is very uncomfortable – no e-bits that essential.
