Dungeons of Eternity is one of the best cooperative action games in VR and has only grown with the recent steam releases.
Almost two years have passed since its first release in Quest, and Dungeons of Eternity has quickly made an impact. Other gates that scored our best reviews have created highly refined fantasy dungeon crawlers. The news of the enhanced Steam edition quickly caught my attention and I’m glad that this port won’t disappoint.
The core gameplay remains the same, but I’ll sum up those who are not familiar. Once the threadbear story sets this, it is tasked with passing through procedurally generated dungeons to suppress threats and find treasures. Solo play is available. The first release only supported a party of three, but it expanded to four players with cross-platform multiplayer.
There are three main modes that span four different biomes that make this interesting. “Dungeon Raid” is your traditional “Dungeon Crawler” option and received a welcome expansion that expands the previous “Hazard” for more challenging runs, including healing items and higher damage. “Soul Harvest” is like a Horde mode, but Crystal Hunt requires power to ancient machines to stop enemy waves.
Dungeons of Eternity still nails the battles of hacking and slashes. There are wide weapons with unlimited arrows to the bow, and even more typical melee items like swords and shafts. Even now, I’m still happy to throw your x at the enemy, remember it with a magnetic grab and hit them again when I come back.
The staff doesn’t give me the same satisfaction, but with melee weapons you often feel strong. The feeling grows as you unlock additional weapons. Beware of the explosive barrels. The area of damage in effect can knock you out almost instantly and feel a little too big.
My launch review covers a wider detail, but what you can find here remains a fantastic fantasy action RPG in itself with friends. It’s better than ever thanks to updates in content since the last two years, including better varieties and increased level caps, including more chambers and new monsters. You can’t forget that spider mode turns spiders into hilarious gelatinous blobs.
This will grow even further with the new “Mythic Promotion” update with steam releases, making notable changes beyond the risk. Two new vendors, cosmetics and weapons, have now come live with a new section of Outpost, Liv Creator Kit Support. There are 30 new chambers in the mix that may appear during each run. I haven’t unlocked these yet, but here is the new Endgame “mythical weapons.”
Dungeons of Eternity already looks great in the quest. This makes it even more comfortable for Steam releases to take further distance for presentations. New visual upgrades such as real-time lighting, volumetric effects, and surrounding occlusion will brighten up your PC VR edition. It looks great moving. Performance is completely smooth on high-end desktops, but other gates are currently advised to disable Synchronous Space Warp (SSW) on virtual desktops.
My desktop uses an Intel I9 16-core processor I9-12900 (up to 5.1GHz), a 32GB RAM-Corsair Vengeance DDR5 5200MHz, and a 16GB Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super. This hands-on was conducted using Meta Quest 3 via the virtual desktop app.
This was tested at the best performance settings. You can find the minimum specifications at steam For more information, no recommended specifications are currently listed.
Still, there are some small issues that are worth noting here. Aliasing was noticeable as I approached the light source, and did not change when adjusting various brightness and graphical settings. The weapon’s toggle grip is a welcome addition, rather than having to constantly grip. Official support for PC PS VR2 hardware is also being addressed with the following HotFix:

For those who have spent a few hours on the quest version, it’s safe to know that cross saves are supported. This involves getting (save Transfer Code) from the Quest version’s options menu and entering it into Steam within 10 minutes, which is not particularly useful. It’s at least a one-off deal, and the game automatically syncs progress between both platforms.
I felt a new appreciation for the eternal dungeon, and the other gates did an amazing job bringing this to a new platform. Between welcome visual enhancements, fun content updates and solid combat, it’s great to see one of my favorite cooperative experiences enhanced in VR. For those who have a capable gaming PC, this is the ultimate way to play.
Dungeons of Eternity is available for quests and steam.
