I’ve said it before, and I say it again: Soul Frame It’s a game with a confused identity. From the name alone, there is a hope of a soft-style combat mix that combines hacking and thrashing in the flagship game of Digital Extremes with high-octane bullet jumping and thrashing. But in reality, it’s a vast dark fantasy MMO that borrows elements of games like Souls and warfame’s unique aesthetics, but that’s the end of the comparison. If you’re from a veteran from Soft, that battle will remove you from the cold, and longtime war frame fans have little or no similarity. That’s how I felt when I played Prelude last year. The name simply didn’t match the game.
That’s something I’ve said before, and my main concern is how the promises of “soul” and “frame” don’t translate respectively, and to keep people away from MMORPGs that can be truly special. But a lot has changed since I last played Soulframe. The combat was much remade to feel like it’s more like an action game than a traditional soul.
In a pre-Tennocon briefing, creative director Jeff Crueks said the overall plan was to deal with “people who are hi-jon halling us as a hardcore game,” and that the magician build could be played “more casually.”
Crookes’ statement to Tennocon’s senior community manager Sarah Asselin and Digital Extremes’ COO Sheldon Carter ask if there is a switch in the direction of the game, or if the current state SoulFrame is closer to the final product team’s plans. “I think that’s a bit of both,” Aceline says. “We had that creative vision in Soul Frame. This can also be seen in waste bears that are suffering stags and bromius from the whole f story from the beginning. These redness and restoration themes really exist. But looking at the mechanics of the game and the game design system, these have really had a big overhaul.
“There was a massive overhaul in the battle. I think there was a really intense work on the development side of things to actually improve for two and a half months, after last year’s demonstration, so it’s definitely a blend of things.
“That’s why Tenocon is really cool,” Carter continues. “This is the ultimate proof foundation for us every year for both Soul Frame and Warframe. Last year we showed what we have (for Soul Frame), so we were proud of last year’s demonstrations, and we’re glad we got that feedback.
“It feeds our design philosophy with DE – it’s community-driven. When you get that feedback, it’s humble,” he says with a laugh.
“That’s one of the aspects of being really transparent,” says Aserine. “You’re sometimes positive, you’re going to affirm feedback, and sometimes you get that constructive criticism. But it’s kind of the way we run, and in any case, it’s “ok, I love it” or “how do you improve to get to where they love it?”
I ask Athelin and Carter specifically about the points of the Crewke. When I played Prelude last year, I was in a battle. very I feel that perfect parry and dodge, like soul, is almost a must. However, I feel that the caster builds featured during the Waste Bear demonstration are completely different, so I ask if the plan will continue with more casual action RPG veins or if there is still an opportunity to lift the challenges.
“We want to have access to soul frames for those who want a more casual playing style. The new caster-type magic weapons are supposed to feel that way,” says Aserin. “With future combat manuals (a set of new upgrades that can further refine your playstyle), we hope you have the opportunity to enter that style. Maybe you really love the hair dryer and want it to be yours.
“When you look at the comparison of souls or see Eldenling, Eldenling is a big, beautiful game, and what do you do if you like it?” “Every team has different levels. There are people like Jeff (crookes) who really like that perfect parry, but there are a lot of people who want to play games where you can play as a caster or use your bow.”
“It’s something I like about Zelda, something I like about Eldenling, it’s a progression system that our team is working on, and it allows us to go deeper if necessary.”

As someone who hasn’t played Prelude in a while, I’m excited to go back to ALCA. I hold my hand and say I’m not good at Soulslikes. After last year’s demonstration, I really felt like I was struggling to get into Soulframe. Thankfully, I’m a mage build and a long range weapon sucker, so all Lauren is approaching.
While SoulFrame’s release date remains a mystery (though De says it’s likely to be classified as 2026), there’s plenty of exciting new content from Warframe, including the first-ever TAU campaign. But if it’s the pure white vibe of the soul frame that drew you in, we have a list of the best fantasy games to keep you busy.
