Borderlands 4 reviews

With improved movements, catastrophic action skills that can be adjusted to suit your playstyle, and a very limited Crap Trap look, Borderlands 4 is the best Borderlands game ever.

  • Developer: Gearbox software
  • Publisher: 2k
  • release: September 12, 2025
  • Above: Windows
  • from: Steam, the epic game store
  • price: $69.99/€79.99/£59.99
  • review: Intel Core I5-13600K, 32GB RAM, NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 4080, Windows 10

Everyone is complaining about the technological state where Borderlands 4 was released, but whether it was a choppy performance or the lack of a FOV slider on the console, I found myself on the much happier edge of the spectrum. Apart from a slow start to gruelling, which I owned with a weak pistol and owned with other weapon types, playing this game made me smile like a fool about it being the best border zone ever.

Certainly, it’s a series I’ve never actually clicked on, and all previous attempts ended with boredom. However, Borderlands 4 is different. From the world’s design to the power diversity of playable vault hunters, almost everything about it has been improved or refined, and I’m actually frustrated that I have to stop playing so I can write this review. This game is Consumes me.

Again, it all starts with one choice of four vault hunters. Of course, gamers love goth girls, so everyone fights for the witch goth girl Bex, but I went with Harlow, a scientist who manipulates gravity. Even more than the previous games, Borderlands’ Merccs offers an impressively different play style.

For example, if you prefer to stand up on the face of an enemy, Amon from Forgenight is a better choice for you, with his various melee abilities. For those who want an easier solo run, Poster Girl VEX can provide you with the ability to lay eggs with minions to fight on your behalf. Packed with a holographic exosuit, Rafa is a fantastic hybrid, allowing you to jump in and brawl before quickly retreating the survivors with their distant abilities. Still, in Harlow, runner gunners with huge bombs and many crowd control were exactly what I needed.

We are also grateful that Borderlands 4 abandoned Pandora and supported the new Helpnet Kairos and a previously hidden world ruled by the new Big Buddy of Timekeeper. His overly loyal lucky and illustrious leader to the public enemy number one starring in a pretty good introduction sequence that busts out of one of this prisons, but the way he sets up his ability to totally overwhelm anyone wearing one of the control bolts is odd.

Also, during the opening hour, we will be reunited with the only…claptrap. Apart from another case of improvements to Sensibleness in Borderlands 4, he is really just there to showcase the appropriate ones for Kairos. This is divided into four regions, each with its own purpose and quest line. The game is far better and doesn’t even mean this in an edgy “it’s cool to hate claptrap” way. I really can’t stand the way that robot and his voice grasps me. Gearbox, thank you for listening to my screams.

At these early stages there was still something else in my mind. So, it makes sense to limit the more powerful weapons to later levels, “Where are all guns?”, but it takes time for Borderlands 4 to actually find the foot. However, after I came across my first Good Spec SMG, I was hooked. Wherever I dare to start with what to do better, everything?

Talk to Revane in the gorgeous palace in the border area.

Takes Kairos itself and eventually gives the series the first true open world, leaving it to zero because the screen is not interrupted. Crossing is more fun, and there is a significant improvement in the movement mechanism that allows for double jumps, grapples, or jetpacks across alien landscapes. You can use these in combat, tackle perspectives, or hover behind the cover.

The ability to summon personal vehicles with commands will eliminate the troublesome moments of previous games where you have to run to the spawn point closest to the new wheel. These customizable hover bikes will get you done even if it’s not so surprising to drive, and your robot’s buddy echo will literally get you from place to place as easily as you follow a straight line on the ground. Anyway, as long as it works, sometimes echoes shrugg you off or say that even though it’s obviously there, it can’t find a way.

Of course, like in the Borderlands game, many missions require you to take them away to a faraway place just to have a conversation with the sucker before you go to the next waypoint. However, one neat change is that it rarely comes back to the base to “complete” missions. You also have access to fast travel, but it is limited to only a few important places and then to safe houses that you need to take over. This can be a bit frustrating, especially when some checkpoint locations are a few hundred meters away from where the battle is happening.

In Borderlands 4, Harlowe's Chroma Accelerator Orb explodes, causing great damage.

We were able to build the skills and possibilities of each Vault Hunter and have built the possibilities. Everyone gets three skill trees, generate three variations on unique action skills, making them more flexible than previous Borderlands games, and more opportunities to tailor Vault Hunter to suit their playstyle.

The power itself is more satisfying and more diverse. Harlowe’s Chroma Accelerator, for example, was my absolute tea, throwing out a huge, frozen, cold energy orb. A huge explosion that leaves radiation behind to not only affect it, but also damage it over time? There is no mistake.

When it comes to action skill selection and action point placement, thanks to the scale of options, it’s easy to see what you feel the same about your character. Suck your sight and you can make this game more enjoyable by choosing explosive AoE damage. If you already want to buff the perfect purpose (PFFT, show-off), you can do so by picking up the skill that strengthens the gun.

There’s definitely something to far more people than Borderlands 3. Your skill tree may not be punished either. Experiment, try new abilities, and then easily reset on a RESPEC machine with minimal cost. If something doesn’t work, it’s not the end of the world.

Borderlands 4, it can be difficult to get ahead. By moving forward the game and absolutely erasing and absolutely erasing the loyal companions of the Timekeeper, this means I will die many times in an attempt to beat them. Take a break from playing the game. Go outside to smoke. Come back; die again and again, and finally win the battle by the skin of your teeth.

Still, for me, this challenge showed how much I enjoyed this in my previous Borderlands games. No matter how overwhelming your action skills are, you still struggle no matter how good your gun is. I can’t explain how good it felt, especially when I was able to see him watching Kiel, especially after trying to make the high boss sixth.

Sophia, the alien Leviathan, is under attack in Borderland 4.

And when the campaign gets too tired (or when you run out of cigarettes), there are multiple side missions instead, many of which are stupid and attractive. Whether a couple who appears to be accused of aliens or a couple who are perceptive rocks who want to be able to fly, it doesn’t have to be a serious business all the time, filling the world of Cairo and due to the political unrest around them.

After the excessive eccentricity of Borderlands 3, and after that sole ring jokes and memes, Gearbox actually continues to ground the main story of Part 4 even further. However, laughter has not been abandoned to achieve this. They just moved on to those sweet side missions. Another wise choice.

Borderlands 4 takes everything that worked in previous games, removes most of the obstacles (cough cough cough) and improves the aspects of the RPG. That has a problem. Not only is it technological, but sometimes it can feel like endless travel and an awful excess of weapons. But there are no billions of garbage guns, what’s even a major improvement in Borderland?
