tHere it’s not like a horror game where you can always get itchy on the edge of your seat, never knowing what’s on the other side of the door. Horror games are one of my favorite genres and have many favorite memories of scrambling arenas Resident Evil 2 Or we’re messing up our monster-stained usg ishimura, but we’re somewhat experiencing the renaissance of a glorious era of horror games.

In addition to the remake of the aforementioned release, Konami Silent Hill 2 It was also brought to life in a new light thanks to the outstanding efforts made by the Bloober Team. Despite initial reservations regarding developer interpretation Silent Hill 2the Bloober team was amazed at the quality of the product, but they are even more excited about what’s in place for the developers.

Chronos: A New Dawn It was announced last October, but although I didn’t pay much attention to the games at the time, I’m more and more drawn to games now that there are more gameplay snippets being shared just a few days after its first release. It is scheduled to come out on September 5th, 2025 for the PS5, Xbox Series X/s and Switch 2, and could be one of my favorite games of the year.

There are many reasons why that is true, but there are certain pitfalls in the games that developers want to avoid, but let’s start with the good ones. The best horror games actually have a clear air of mystery surrounding them. That is clearly evident in the atmosphere. The opening act of Resident Evil 2, Even in the town where the smoke of Silent Hill was absorbed, or even in the eerie, isolated corridors of usg ishimura Dead Space – It doesn’t take long for a good horror game to clarify its intentions.

Chronos: A New Dawn Also, this very important goal is achieved without much effort, much of it can be attributed to the excellent atmosphere that is being provided. The concept of the game is very unique in that it revolves around scientists who explore desolate environments over various periods. The rifts and strangeness of time are common events, and the places we saw in the trailer seem like a mix of creepy familiar and barely understandable.

meanwhile Chronos: A New Dawn It nails the ominous aesthetic and gains a unique look through its ingenious concept of time travel. I’m not sold entirely to the main character. As you can see from the trailer, the traveler is always wearing a space suit and nothing worthwhile is said about him. His motivation, his biggest fear, his whole nine yards. So I’m afraid of that Chronos: A New Dawn You could suffer from a story that appears to be promising on the surface, but it’s actually shallow, as the characters that make up this story lack the depth.

You know, this change was a massive anomaly, leaving the world fixed. The only way to reverse that loss is to visit the past and get a key person. Deadly creatures, orphans lurk in the darkest corners of these places – and this, as we know, is the end of the world. But it all means nothing if the characters at the heart of the plot are nothing interesting about them. I hope my concerns are unfounded.

What surprised me about the game must be the gameplay, which is definitely the star of the show. It draws many foundations from popular contemporaries of the genre, but does not avoid adding a unique touch to carve out identity for itself. Within those touches, the Chief must be how the aforementioned encounter with the orphan unfolds.

Unlike the traditional zombies we see with most contemporaries, orphans can actually change their enemies, move and change them in unprecedented ways, and become truly a huge threat during their exploration. These enemies can also feed the bodies of fallen comrades and transform them into larger, stronger variants.

So the best course of action to defeat them is to burn your body using a flame throw attached to your back, making it a two-course action. Between this and the fact that resources are limited, each encounter feels like a crude battle where you desperately dance around the arena, picking up your enemies and hoping you won’t be invited to an improvised battle with strong enemies.

The best horror games really know how to ease players in the environment, slowly build up tension, peak it with enemy encounters and try again. Learning that rhythm and sometimes changing players to catch off guard is what determines the quality of the experience. I’ve experienced many previews and gameplay snippets multiple times. The team did an incredible job of creating levels that can be played skillfully with unknown horrors. Hopefully, Chronos: A New Dawn Its impressive show can be adopted and maintained through the entire experience.

I also really love the design of the game that’s going on here. Developers make good use of the multipurpose design philosophy, which allows them to use the same input in different ways to achieve the same results. You can shoot instantly via the trigger press, but you can also hold it in order to unleash more damage. Flamethrowers are primarily used to burn fallen enemies, but they can also be used to push enemies out in a pinch. There are many other such gameplay instances that are scattered throughout the trailer, but that was something that really caught my eye and wanted to know more.

The modular design has also been extended to weapons weapons, allowing you to see the singular pistol at first. However, as you move deeper into the story, you will find new attachments that can be bolted to your weapon, allowing you to convert from one weapon to another. I found out that I could turn my pistol into a long-range shotgun or something like that. In that respect it is completely reminiscent of a control service weapon, but it could also have a drawback.

Do you remember how inventory management was important to games like Resident Evil 2? You spend a few minutes trying to optimize your limited storage. Depending on what is waiting for the other side of the checkpoint, exchange weapons that are not used to heal the supply, or vice versa. It was an important design decision that made you feel helpless in the face of danger, but Chronos: New Dawn might mean skipping that part of the experience.

Conversely, the Bloober team seems to have settled on the progression of traditional style players. Here we collect upgrades of these weapons to enhance the player. It leans towards a specific upgrade and is more suitable for your play style. This allows for the flexibility of the same player in different ways. It’s not so traditional, but it should work if the level design is structured to leverage the progression system of such a player.

But the rest here looks very promising here. Chronos: A New Dawn You’ll be one of the best in that class. For example, the developers have confirmed that the story has options to affect the ending.

It’s also been a long time since I’ve seen a truly memorable survival horror experience that isn’t a rehash of the beloved classic. If the team can avoid the pitfalls I mentioned – it’s very likely Chronos: A New Dawn It could only be one of the biggest surprise hits of the year. Until then, my fingers remained crossed.
