wAt least when it comes to video game releases, hen thinks of September, some notable names come to mind. Borderland 4especially since Randy Pitchford has stopped sabotaging himself (for now). The dying light: beastTechland wants to be the best game in the franchise. Silent Hill fthe latest mainline title of Konami’s horror franchise could be the weirdest if writer ryukishi07 has his way. The list continues. It doesn’t even have accounting The Ghost of Yoteilaunches just two days after September is over, or Battlefield 6It will be released on October 10th.

This is a year-end release schedule and a holiday rush, but if there are always some unorthodox and less marketable titles, it will grab our attention. Suitable Case, Rogue Factor Hell is us. You probably remember the studio Mordheim: City of DamnedIt was released in 2015, when it was part of cyanide. Of course, when it was announced Hell is us In April 2022, our first thought was “Death strategy A soul-like encounter. “It is scheduled to be released in 2023, but has disappeared and reappeared during Sony’s playful state, but it looks as charming and unforgettable as ever.

After the latest release date announcement, we finally saw more Hell is us Also, thanks to the limited time free demo, I even had the opportunity to go there practically. And while there’s still a way to go before release, it already looks like one of the most underrated titles of the year.

First, the background: Hell is us It takes place at some unknown points in the future where a mysterious disaster occurred. A creature known as a hollow pedestrian has appeared, and its purpose is unknown. But you are not trying to reconnect the world or save it against disaster. Instead, you play as a peacekeeping force named Remi. Remi suddenly becomes AWOL. His goal is to place his parents in the fictional Hadea country. This is easier than that, given his free resources and the continued civil war that has since been completely devastated. He can hold himself in battle and dodges hollow pedestrians using various weapons, such as swords and shafts, along with trusted drones.

However, when it comes to finding his parents, Remi has to resort to his eyes, ears, and acting reasoning. Despite being a “semi-open world”, Hell is us It does not provide compass, maps, or quest markers either. You are as blind as Remi as you venture through different regions, and don’t even know where to start and who to trust. With that in mind, you can talk to various NPCs and gather clues.

For example, you may discover ruins in a village called Jova and talk to orphan survivors. Another example tracks Windchime at the inquiry of Atticus Caddel, who lost his family, and discovers a military patrol that was recently ambushed. If you help one survivor, he will show you how to reach nearby ruins where the remaining members have ventured for some unknown purposes. Of course, adventures inside reveal that the location is far more than some simple catacombs.

At first glance, all of this may seem unconnected (and they may work very well). But you never know what clues can lead to upgrades, gear, and useful items on your journey. Plus, it’s much easier to venture even further and take on the various mysteries that adorn the world (the fraudulent factors are touted as “countless”). What is that big anomaly in the distance? Why are there certain hollow pedestrians, Harz, distinguished by different human emotions? For better or worse, it’s up to you to know.

That being said, actual exploration still needs to be fully guided. You need to venture on your own, dodge other hollow pedestrians (having multiple layers and can even combine with deadly threats), and find a place according to information you can use anywhere at your disposal. HUD is pretty minimal, and sometimes only your instincts (and perhaps a little bit of luck) to guide you.

In particular, adding a light survival element can be frustrating. There is a staminameter that plays in combat, but a decrease in health reduces the maximum amount available. Lack of stamina can weaken your attacks, especially in the battles of hacking, hack and slashes, but you might have a soul-like shade, Hell is us It’s not aiming for that in terms of difficulty.

That doesn’t mean you won’t run into some dangerous battles. It takes us into the dungeon. The dungeon is probably the most fascinating part of the game. Each one is handmade and has a unique theme that is connected to emotions. It’s completely different from the current setting, but it’s not a typical fantasy layout, but includes puzzles and challenging battles, some with more than others. Again, there is no support in solving these puzzles and you have to take a step back to try different things, hoping to succeed (and finally face the final enemy). The dungeon also has some degree of connection to the current situation in the world. This could mean a clue to the disaster.

Regarding other action adventure titles, Hell is us I’m not sticking to Set Formula. Rather than the boss, the Rogue Factor focuses more on “a meaningful battle at key moments in the story,” as creative and art director Jonathan Jack Belettete explained on the PlayStation blog. The fact that it is inspired by Jeff Vandermere Southern Reach TrilogyIncludes rave reviews Disappearance.

And if you’re really keen to increase (or reduce) your challenges, the three combat presets are generous, balanced and merciless to adjust enemy health, damage, etc. Death penalty option is also available. This resets XP and enemies that have been defeated after dying in the last save.

If you peel off the direction of strong art, Hell is us There seem to be some lofty ambitions when it comes to gameplay loops and core mystery. Based on development time and large PC requirements, it may seem like you’re biting more incorrect factors than you can bite. Nonetheless, Jacques-Belletête is working on it Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Humanity has been dividedSo there’s hope that this is far more than your average action-adventure (and that’s one that has a decent and decisive ending too).

I’m still a little unclear how it works in terms of sales, especially with launching among so many other well-known titles. There is hope that there is an inherent strangeness of Hell is us Shining, it has enough material to truly portray those who want unorthodox exploratory experiences. who knows? This year is another running theme for some games. Hell is us The launch of the Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC on September 4th has recently become gold, so thankfully we don’t have to wait too long to find it.
