How many Minecraft mobs are there? Short for “Mobile”, Minecraft Mobs is a creature that is around the Sandbox game, whether hostile or friendly. As of 1.21.8, Vanillamine Craft currently has over 80 unique mobs.
If that’s not enough, you can add more with some of the best Minecraft mods, but here we’re talking purely about the Vanilla Base game. With that in mind, we’ve listed all the mobs in the survival game. You can also read more about Minecraft’s mob variations and keep up with the latest arrival at Overworld.
New Minecraft Mobs
New mobs are always added to Minecraft, but once the annual mob vote ends, you get when Mojang wants to add.
With the 1.21.6 update, it is probably one of the greatest new mobs we’ve ever seen, and arrived at Overworld, but only if you collect from Nether first. The loving, new, dry gusts are found wandering in the warmth of the hellish scenery, but when they are covered in the ground and suffocated in the water, they will soon be happy!
What is a passive, neutral and hostile mob?
There are three types of Minecraft Mobs: passive, neutral and hostile. Passive mobs don’t attack players, and many even run away when attacked. Meanwhile, hostile mobs attack without provocation.
Neutral mobs don’t attack Unless there is Provocation. For example, if a player hits a wild wolf, they will attack. Similarly, the Llamas will attack them or their wandering traders, and the iron golems protect the villagers and attack those who attack one.
Many passive mobs may be tamed and bred, and there are individual guides on many MOBs for more information, including these mechanisms. Simply click on the link below to get more information about that Minecraft mob.
Mob Variant
For some of the MOBs listed below, there are several different variations to help you find out if you need a complete collection on your farm.
There have been variations of sheep for a long time, as they can be laid with different colours of wool. In fact, the rare pink sheep have been around since the early days of the game, and even the color-changing Jeb sheep have arrived at 1.7.4. More recently, cows, pigs and chickens were all given biome variants in the 2025 1.21.5 Spring-to-Life Update.
