What is the best plane game on your PC? Whether you want to ride the Atlantic slowly or put enemy combatants on your guns in an action-packed dogfight, there are plenty of very different games that you can bring into the sky. The best part is that you can do it from the comfort of a gaming PC. You may also be able to customize the controls with joysticks and levers for a more realistic experience.
We’ve put together a list of the best airplane games to play on your PC in 2025 to choose the one that suits your taste. Like many simulation-based genres, we are watching your submarine games.
These are the best plane games on PC:
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is not a surprising addition to this list, especially considering 2020 was in this place for quite some time. The latest entries in the long-term series continue to innovate with a hardcore simulation approach known for adding great additions that flight sims shouldn’t overlook.
From improved visuals to new aircraft, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 offers plenty of content for new and returning fans. However, Career Mode is a story-like mode that moves from rookie pilots to professional pilots, showing you a great tutorial process for new players in the series. If you want to feel like a true pilot, Microsoft Flight Simulator is a sure option.
Star Wars: Squadron
Star Wars: Squadrons is an arcade-style flying game with intense dogfighting at its core, epic space fighting and charm. Defeating your enemies gracefully and managing your power distribution feels great.
The short but sweet campaign is fun from start to finish, but it’s a multiplayer action game that keeps you flying through space for the next few months. It’s a shame that EA’s post-launch plans did not expand beyond simple cosmetics. Our Star Wars Squadron review details about it being one of the best Star Wars games for years and a very great flying game to boot.
IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Stalingrad
If you’re a fan of WW2 games, the IL-2 Sturmovik is the touchstone of the plane game of the time. Plays like a solid flight sim, but the IL-2 Sturmovik has fresh access to beginners, and its latest iterations do an incredible job of engaging you with its realistic graphics and damage modeling.
Small details like flowing water over clouds come a long way to fly AI enemies flying towards the clouds and the sun, making you track them and make sure you really feel like you’re in the cockpit of a World War I fighter. They also boast a dedicated multiplayer community of dog fighters, so you won’t have to struggle to find a match.
Battlefield 5
Though not the latest, perhaps the most shining thing in the BF game, Battlefield 5 took place during World War II and, at least for us, catches the sweet spot of dogfight. The plane has made a big technological leap from WW1, but they are still…well, propelled by a propeller, and you can’t break the sound wall from your rattle cockpit. This means that in order to succeed in the sky you need to rely on your wisdom and perhaps a little help from below.
It takes a minute to speed up with the upgrade, but once you settle on the fighter of your choice, dominating the sky is incredibly satisfying. Whether you choose a Spree Spitfire or one that is heavy and obviously adjacent to a bomber, Battlefield 5 has a lot of love.
Alma 3
While most fighter games focus on dogfighting, in ARMA 3 you can help on the battlefield by jumping into the cockpit of a jet fighter jet, trapping heavy tanks and carrying out air strikes. The depth of flight physics and mechanics has not compared to some of the hardcore flying games on this list, but there is still plenty of scope for mastering.
Air-to-air combat is primarily about managing your location and removing targets from above the battlefield using various missiles. Aircraft also play an important role, with modern technologies such as laser guided missiles and anti-armor cannons making excellent pilots essential on the battlefield. If you’re tired of planes, there are plenty of helicopters too.
ACE Combat 7: Sky is unknown
It certainly looks real, but the gameplay and storyline of Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown is nothing. The story has been baffled unless you’ve stuck to the series since the series’ founding, so the best assets of Ace Combat 7 are its sophisticated visuals and Breakneck Dogfights.
Bandai Namco has done everything to make the campaign mission as dramatic and overshadow possible, leading to canyon dogfights, bold assaults under the cover of lightning storms, and odd flybys between the collapsed buildings. X-Plane 11
The X-Plane 11 is a more modern take on the FSX, featuring graphics, a cockpit model and a menu system that won’t slam your head on the desk before your first takeoff.
In fact, there’s a lot to enjoy about the X-Plane 11 before you actually fly. It’s endlessly enthralling to watch as you sit at the airport and move around just looking at the cavalry of catering trucks, tags, refueling tanks and cargo trolleys. But it’s not a light aircraft where the X-Plane 11 is most compelling in the air, and can sense any ridges and quirks in the airplane’s flying characteristics, especially the airplane.
Super Flight
Superflights don’t have planes, but I’ll add them to the list for one reason. Flying around it is amazing. SuperFlight is one of the most relaxed games. This is impressive as it’s all about flying near the wings and flying through deadly dangerous mountains with their wings and earning as many points as possible.
All levels are procedurally generated to ensure a certain sense of discovery. If you find a species you particularly like, you can save it and challenge your friends to beat the score.
Skyrogue
Few airplane games abandon realism with just as reckless as Sky Rogue. Sky Rogue is a neon-lit arcade fighter jet game that is seemingly simple at first, but hides serious depth.
Prior to each mission you have been processed, you will choose a jet, customize the weapon system and slap the colouring that pulls out the inner Tom Cruise. Then it’s a case of slamming barrels around the level and blowing everything into the kingdom. With 12 jets and over 30 weapons, it will take some time before you get bored of shredding enemy aces, battleships and tanks.
Bomber crew
The bomber crew will be responsible for selecting and managing the crew of the WW2 bomber, going out on bombing raids and returning to England with as few casualties as possible. All missions require you to manage the position of each crew, fight enemy fighters, and make sure they are flying in the right direction and height. If you’re too expensive, your crew will freeze to death. If it’s too low, you’ll be shot from the sky.
The bomber crew looks light and friendly, but the smallest mistake in this plane-based strategy game leads to a quick death of the crew. It takes some time to get used to it, but at least you can learn from the mistakes you made in the next bombing.
