Marvel Comics has received numerous characters’ litcons throughout its history. This is especially important when it comes to associating heroes and villains over time. Marvel tried to overhaul everything with the ultimate comic line, but fans mostly wanted to continue following the characters they’ve grown over the years. However, Marvel Comics has consistently regained the characters in various eras as Spider-Man and the X-Men are the characters that are most likely to make significant changes. The problem is that not all of these retecons have landed, and many fans disliked the company being changed about their beloved characters.

Let’s take a look at some of the worst litcons in Marvel Comics. Here we made changes that the company didn’t always work well on its fanbase.

The Dark Phoenix Saga was one of the first Marvel comics, with the company killing one of its main heroes, making it seem like Jungrey is gone forever. This happened after Dark Phoenix controlled it, and Jean consumed the sun and killed billions of people on the next planet for that sun. Sheer demands her life, and Jean sacrifices herself to save the X-Men. This was carried over by editor-in-chief Jim Shooter. Jim Shooter said Jean could not live after this huge genocide. However, Marvel brought her back with a Letocon, explaining that the being that killed those people was a dark Phoenix pretending to be Jean, and that the real Jean Gray was still on a spaceship at the bottom of the port. It eliminated all the guilt from Jean, but that meant that her sacrifice meant nothing. Now Jean’s death is no meaning, as it was the countless times when she died in Marvel comics.

Nightcrawler’s origins have been re-executed several times. When Nightcrawler was first discovered, he lived in a circus and was raised and protected by Margari Sardos and the circus. But over the years he learned more about his parent-child relationship. First, they were similar and had similar powers, so it was a lie told to him by Demon Azazel. However, Marvel has taken it back and reveals that Kurt’s parents are a shocking couple. Kurt is born as a mystic and fateful child, and mysticism transforms her shape and her genitals into men using the characteristics of Azazel, making her fate pregnant with the child. It’s a bit complicated and while it’s great to have trans and queer representations in the comics, it’s still difficult for the whole fan to fall behind.

In the giant-sized X-Men #1, Professor X put together a new team of X-Men and headed to the Sensible Cracoa Island to save the original X-Men students. These new heroes come from all over the world, and Canada is represented by Wolverine. These heroes then remained in Xavier, and a new X-Men team was born. But a few years later it became clear that many unruly tactics were involved. This is not the first team, the first team died trying to save the original X-Men. This is an event Professor X quickly hidden. Even more shocking, Wolverine did not participate from his own free will. He was sent to assassinate Charles Xavier, and the professor brainwashed him to the point of wanting to join the team. This Letcon reveals that Wolverine did not join the X-Men of his own will, and Xavier uses his power to force him into the team. Charles Xavier will become one of the worst mentors and leaders in the Marvel comics world.

In the 1990s, Marvel Comics struggled and did something to turn off a lot of fans. Marvel decided to try to change the look of the cartoon and attract new and younger fans by resembling the appearance of their nearest competitors. They did so by hiring talents in image comics like Jim Lee and Rob Liefeld to reboot the entire comic book line. They fired Reborn, where the onslaught killed the Avengers and the Fantastic Four, and Lee and Rayfeld launched the Heroes. With new origins and essentially the predecessor of the ultimate universe, the two changed everything about heroes. The comic initially sold a ton, but eventually fell a year later, with Marvel reestablishing the status quo.

Marvel Comics gave the X-Men a new coat of paint from the Kracon era. However, years after the creative new directions of Marvel mutants, the company decided to end the Kracon era. To do this, Marvel retryed the important characters, but that didn’t make much sense. When House of X began, it was revealed that Moira was a mutant and had the power to reboot the universe in response to her death and subsequent resurrection. She continues to try and help the mutant, but this ultimately drives her to become evil, and it is Moira who ultimately destroys Krakoa. The Krakoa era was great, but the Letocon to Moira wasn’t, and there had to be a better way to start and finish this storyline.

Spider-Man has not lived a great life and he has lost more people close to him than most other heroes. One of the most hated Spider-Man stories in history was “The Clone Saga.” However, it became clear that many years later, Gwen Stacey’s life had reconstructed and many fans almost gave up on the beloved title. In the 2004 story “The Past of Sin,” Mary Jane tells Peter that Norman Osborne and Gwen had an affair and became pregnant with twins. This was contrary to everything Gwen supported in the comics, and I disliked the fact that Mary Jane had known for a long time. This also led to a relative’s storyline, which was good, but Gwen and the whole Norman Letocon were gross.

When Kamala Khan appeared as Ms. Marvel, it was because Inhuman released Terrigen Mist on Earth, and Kamala discovered that she was inhuman and gained her power in the process. However, months after her death, the X-Men used Krakoa’s resurrection protocol to bring her back to life. The comic book storyline revealed that she is a rare mutant inhuman hybrid, and her powers would have been different if her mutant genes first took effect (she later acquired the powers of new mutants to complement her inhuman abilities). In real life, Kamala becomes inhuman, as Marvel excluded most of the mutant and Fantastic Four storylines thanks to her feud with Fox over the character’s film rights. Once that was wiped out, Marvel made her mutant and inhuman. But it was just complicated and there was no real reason to make her a mutant.

“The Clone Saga” was one of the most hated, if not nearly 20 years, of Marvel comics storylines. This all started with Gwen Stacy looking like he was coming back to life. Eventually, Spider-Man realizes that the bad guy known as the Jackal is cloned of people who loved Peter Parker to drive heroes insanity. Eventually, Spider-Man fights his own clone, one of whom dies in the battle. Over the next two years, Spider-Man roamed his business until Peter Parker returned and claimed he was the real Spider-Man. Letcon here claimed that for two years, fans had Ben Reilly, who believed he was Peter, then the actual Peter Parker disappeared. This has angered many fans. Because they felt that Marvel had given them two years of character development.

“Crossing” may have been the worst decision Marvel Comics ever made on the Avengers Comics book page. Iron Man had experienced many ups and downs in Marvel Comics as one of the company’s first major heroes. Fans have seen Tony Stark overcome incredible odds, including his amazing “Bottle Devil” storyline. However, in the 1990s, Marvel decided to bringcon everything fans knew about Tony by claiming he was always the villain, working for Kang, a double agent for the Avengers for years, and ultimately helping Kang destroy the world. Eventually, Tony died, and the teenage version of the multiverse replaced him, and fans hated him completely. This may be the point where Iron Man really was odd, and that made him one of Marvel Comics’ most disliked superheroes.

There is no returnon in Marvel Comics that is more disliked and disparaged than the “another day” events that have led to the “new day of the day” timeline. In the first story, Spider-Man joins Iron Man’s side in “Civil War” and reveals his identity to the world. This puts his loved one in danger and allows his aunt to pay the price when he takes a bullet for Peter. To save his aunt’s life and keep his identity a secret once again, Peter and Mary Jane signed a contract with Mephisto. They gave up on marriage and erased history in exchange for Aunt May’s life. The next issue shows that Peter never married MJ and everything changed. Peter and MJ have no memories of the past, and the entire Spider-Man comic book has basically been rebooted. Fans hated it, but they still hate it 20 years from now.
