1. Learn how and when to bind
Instead of using Focus to heal yourself through the collected soul, as in the first Hollow Knight, Hornet utilizes Bind. When the Silk Strands demand that they be activated, Bind is instantly in the Hornet heals herself and returns to the fight. To get more silk, keep attacking the enemy and pay attention to the silk meter in the upper left corner. As you know, Hornet is technically a spider despite her name, so this mechanic makes sense when you think about it.
Note that activating the binding makes the Hornet vulnerable for 1 second. If the enemy attacks her while using Bind, the entire process will be cancelled. That means the Hornet loses all the silk that has accumulated, and she is still in poor health. Thankfully, Can be bound in the air -This is actually a bit safer against many of the enemies and bosses moving on the ground in Silkson, at least in the early games.
2. Practice pogo
The art of bouncing over enemies like the pogosticks is a traditional tradition of platformers, and in the original Hollow Knight, the tactic needed to advance further in the game. The same goes for Hollow Knight: Silksong, but with the added complexity – Hornet’s pogo attack is diagonal.
To use the Pogo technique, jump and continue attacking as you attack. The Hornet hits the nail down at a 45-degree angle. If she hits an enemy, she will bounce back and carry this momentum. If the timing is good, you can consistently bounce off the enemy without having to touch the ground. This works well against big enemies like Belbeast bosses, but also against regular enemies as long as you can predict where they are after they bounce off them. In many cases, instructions must be turned in the air. This requires practice.
Once you reach the hunter march, you will have plenty of opportunities to learn pogo. This is the third or fourth region that most players will trip. This area is full of red flowers, and the Hornet needs to drive away the Pogo to reach more heights. Get ready for some tricky platform sections (I really tested the patience of Hardware Master James!)
3. Study enemy behavior and attacks
It’s a good habit to count the number of hits needed to send enemies. The first enemy of the Hornet falls after one or two hits, but when you enter the aforementioned hunter march, those ants deal a lot of damage. Counting hits is a good strategy that can be linked to pogos from the head, as you don’t want to bounce back to a sudden dead enemy. Also, note that there is a slight pushback every time you hit an enemy. It’s a minor, but if she’s too close to the edge, knocking out the Hornet from a particular platform is enough.
Some mobs are not worth fighting either. More humanoid look bugs usually drop the rosaryThe currency you need to buy the most important items in Silksong. For example, bugs with bone marrow pots will always kill those podifers. An explosive grab that sticks to the platform there? I personally don’t care about them.
4. Attacks all walls
Every time you play Metroidvanias you tend to fall into a certain pattern – dashes and bunny hops everywhere (even if they don’t actually move you faster, it’s not I feel it (Like you move faster) and Bang all walls for the possibility of hidden chambers. Pharlooom is filled with fragile walls, so I sincerely recommend following this second advice. Usually you hear a visual or auditory “tell” to let the walls break and let them know you can find it over the treasure – usually a shortcut, a rosary, or a bench to rest and save your progress.
5. Invest in tools
Hornet uses tools at Arsenal. These are color coded according to the slots in the coat of arms that Hornet found during her journey. From what we’ve seen so far, they adhere to the following rules:
- Red tool: Active tool that requires a button to be pressed to use. The straight pin, a bright throw projectile designed for quick attacks, is a great example of this.
- Blue tool: These usually provide passive benefits that revolve around resisting the dangers of the extra armor and the environment. For example, magmabelle moves the hornet against heat.
- Yellow tool: More appropriate passive for exploration or general support. Shard pendants that allow you to collect more shell shards from enemies fall into this category.
there is White toolbut despite sitting in the same place as the red, blue and yellow tools on the menu, they are technically special skills that consume Hornet silk meter. You will naturally find these when exploring the world, and most are essential.
6. Get the map as quickly as possible from Shakura
Shakura is the version of the game, the cart maker of the original Hollow Knight. She can first be found in the bone marrow and will hear her song whenever you enter the area where she is. If you are short on rosary, it can be easily crushed in your nearby Moss Home area (see details below).
Like First Hollow Knight, Silksong has an enthusiastic map system that requires you to own a few different items before tracking your normal progression. Shakra’s map provides an incomplete overview of the area, the compass indicates the location on the map, and the quill can fill out a sketch of Shakra. These new sections are added throughout the map when you rest on the bench.
Unlocking a new region will cause Shakura to move from the last locationso don’t expect her to wander around where you left her all the time. All resources must be purchased to unlock additional markers on the map. For example, fast travel points, especially tough enemy locations.
7. Learn about Rosary Management
Like the first game, Hollow Knight: Silksong has quite a soul-like influence. Aside from the dark atmosphere, this is most obvious in the rosary. In the Rosary, it is most obvious with the small red beads that can be found hanging from the rocks or hanging from the corpses of defeated enemies. This currency is Falloom’s bread and butter, which is difficult to get. Every time you die, you lose all your rosary except that you head to the place of your death and slash the coco that appears there.
But sometimes you run into a Rosary stringsyou won’t get lost in death. Some merchants allow existing rosary to be converted into rosary threads. If you can afford this, it’s a useful option, especially if you don’t want to lose the beads you struggled with when moving through very stiff areas.
Mosshome is the right place to plow the rosary at the start of the game. After meeting Shakura in the bone marrow, go west and arrive at this village full of pilgrim bugs attacking you right in front of you. There’s a bench nearby and it respawns every time you sit there, so be prepared to grind. You can quickly increase the amount of rosary by killing the mob over and over again here.
8. If this guy has problems, get a dash (quick step)
Near the local border with the hunter marrow, there is a giant ants carrying a skull waiting for you on a bench in the bone marrow prison. He looks like a boss, bumps hard like a boss, with two giant swipes from the bone hug, blocking off two health masks at once. But he’s a really big enemy technically and it’s painful to face him unless you can really get good at pogoing on his head or kick him into the small corridor that leads to his room.
For a simple time, Track the Swift Step Dash skill at the top of the deep dock area.. You will need to run through some lava and then hit an oranga magma ball into the ceiling that explodes and creates a new passage. A statue with quick steps awaits you.
Once you get this upgrade, Silkson is very broad, and the Hornet is faster and much more fun to control. The quick step isn’t just dashes – if you hold it down, it’s a perfect runand it makes the Hornet much faster and increases agility to everyone, including this big skull ant.
