What are the best games of the Middle Ages? Rare is a video game that does not have at least one sword, armor suit, or roast chicken. Still, they are usually mixed with bearded hermits.

To that end, we’ve created a list of the best PC games to avoid prophecy and fireworks for good old steel-on-steel action. Medieval games come in a variety of shapes and sizes, with some choosing a more fantasy game style. The strange woman lying in the pond is, after all, not the basis for the government system.

This is the best medieval game:

The Kingdom Comes to Rescue 2

KCD2, which takes place in the medieval tail, is perhaps the most complete, the most complete RPG that involves swords, barons and getting very dirty. A pursuit from a flawed but funny kingdom brings salvation, and Henry stays firmly on Henry’s feet as he embarks on a new journey with his old companion Hans.

Enter everything that 15th century Bohemia has to offer. This includes all things like playing dice, locals, duel contests, castle defense, plot, tricks and more. Grasping your head can be a challenge, so check out the KCD2 reviews to get a feel for the game. Once you’re calm, here’s the best KCD 2 swords and you can protect yourself when the time comes.

Cruel

Despite what most entries on this list believe you, the Middle Ages were not all about swinging a sword and riding a horse. If you were a medieval monk, your days will be isolated at your monastery and create medieval manuscripts – that’s exactly what Inklinati is all about.

This turn-based strategy game plays across illuminated pages of these same manuscripts. Historical literary giants such as Hildegard von Bingen and Dante Arighieri go head-on with the living ink, sending an army of rabbits, foxes and cannibalistic snails into battle. It doubles as one of the steam deck games, so you can get inkwells on the go.

Game of Thrones: Winter is Coming

Now, don’t get mad, but I’m proposing something technically not a medieval game. However, when creating the Westeros world, it is clear that George R.R. Martin is heavily influenced by medieval history. Sure enough, the game captures the medieval feelings that books and TV series did before that.

Game of Thrones: Winter has come, and you are playing as Lord or woman after Eddard Stark’s death, trying to lay the foundations of their power. You can use Mmorts gameplay to develop your city and build an army. It’s a great way to translate the complex political nuances of this fantasy world into video game media.

Play Game of Thrones: Winter is coming for free.

Medieval Games - Manor Road

Manor Road

So far, you can only play Manor Lords in Early Access, but it’s definitely worth the time with this medieval city builder when you wait for the full release date of Manor Lords. At Manor Road, you are tasked with building a village from scratch with this gridless base building system.

Starting with some loyal villagers and a scattering of tents, you will soon expand into thriving towns and cities, having an army at your fingertips! You need to protect yourself from bandits and enemy troops, manage your resources carefully, and scale at just the right pace. Manor Road is a challenging yet satisfying game, with all the features still inaccessible, but we look forward to the upcoming features.

Best Medieval Game: Three Courtiers Holding Scorecards in Calvary procession.

The procession to Calvary

The Procession to Calvary is an adventure game with a twist of medieval comedy. Solo developer Joe Richardson employs the typical style of stop-motion animation popularized by Terry Gilliam, leading it to point and click. The cruel war is over, but as you overcome the medieval world that built a scrapbook style from cutting out the famous Renaissance artwork, your journey to track Peter in wily, elusive heaven has just begun. The venerable works of Rembrandt and Botticelli are repurposed by Richardson to create both luxurious and surreal worlds.

Calvary’s procession to impressive style may have already won you, but it also has a material that matches it. Like the “verb coin” menu, you interact with the kingdom’s courtiers and peasants, and engage in a witty dialogue that is guaranteed to appeal to the passing Python-Head. You can also pull the sword and cut back on people who are a little too big for the boots, but you’ll be warned. With a large population of rich gags and philosophical meditation, the procession to Calvary will allow you to sneak into your Mead’s cup.

The best medieval game - the Red Army is surrounded by the village of Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord.

Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord

Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord understands what combat is in medieval games. It is part of a very dangerous mosh pit, shaking a few inches of space and blowing the mace down the forehead. You are not farther than the arrows of your eyes from death. In other words, Banner Road’s massive battles are vitality, tension and danger.

It will still be a good time if this medieval game just creates an opening and a deal blow, but Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord’s Scelchy Skirmishes takes place in a rather medieval sandbox. Fighting factions and empires will help you increase the size of your Bannerlord party by hiring enough bribery, dealing with Bannerlord Caravans, best Bannerlord Companions, Bandit Raids, SideQuests, Arena Delels and Bannerlord workshop management all side by side. In addition to this, the battle features an entire RTS layer, allowing you to order an army to order its formation to order. It becomes a hybrid between your favorite open world games, simulation games and RPG games, resulting in a complete and unique banner load.

At the time of writing, Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord has left early access since then, but there are iron, cracks to smooth out, and some rough spots for fetching breastplate stretchers. Even at this stage, it is still one of the best medieval games for fans of huge and exciting battles and for moving from one city to the next to sell a ton of cheese.

The best medieval game - the king stands in his throne room, sandwiched between two apparently bred children of Crusader Kings 3.

Crusades 3

Paradox Interactive’s Grand Strategy game has a reputation for inexplicability, but it bets on your favorite heirs whose Crusader Kings 3 is set to change. It is not only the most instantly accessible of Paradox’s works. According to the Crusader Kings 3 review, this has achieved this without sacrificing an inch of depth, making it one of the best games of the Middle Ages.

Crusader Kings 3 stands out from the crowds of medieval games for one important reason. It’s about people, not empires. As long as RPGs are statistical map painters (probably more), the average sessions of Crusader Kings 3 focus on the victory, failure, victory and heartbreak of individual rulers and those close to them. It’s a magic box you click on and lets you come out with an extraordinary story.

On the given day you may create evidence to your spymaster that your second cousin is practicing magic, and give you an excuse to imprison them, strip you of their land and title. Or you might spend a life dedicated to your faith, creating the split branches of your nature worship, for the crown of your grand empire, and devoted yourself to your faith just to spend the year of Twilight. It has something for everyone, or at least everyone who enjoys healthy slut, backstab, betrayal.

The best medieval game - A band of knights standing on a hill where they raised weapons in Knights 2.

Kishido 2

Although he pretends to be a few people on the throne, except for the sequel, Chivalry 2, all of the things like first-person knight combat games are not ones that have clashes with enemies on a huge battlefield, fire arrows from the relative safety of castle walls, or defeat enemy fortresses in catapults, knocking down enemy arrows with other siege techniques. There are a wide range of customizable options for knights that exceed 10 subclasses and 30 unique weapons.

Are there flashy charges towards the village of farmers riding horses, as well as lances and shields? You can do just that. The latest Winter War update adds new maps, quarter staff, and even the opportunity to become the king of warriors. So, if you are still undecided, read the Chivalry 2 reviews and read the Chivalry 2 beginner’s guide and study, the best Chivalry 2 class, before you dive into battle, if you are still undecided, or make your mark in your history.

The best medieval game - Hugo sits on the shoulders of Amisia in the lively town of the Plague Story: Requiem.

The Story of the Plague: Requiem

As a sequel to the Charmful Plague Story: Innocence, Requiem continues where the first game left off. It essentially looks and plays like this dark, muddy medieval game packed with dark moments of tension and despair. It takes clues from stealth and action adventure games and weaves between the waves of killer rats while avoiding security guards.

But the changes in Amicia and Hugo really feel like their past has shaped them. Amisia is psychologically traumatized until her hatred and anger draws her into the sadistic soldier’s dislike. Also, according to our A Plague Tale: Requiem Review, it’s one of the best story games, so it’s worth the time.

Best Medieval Games - Soldiers marching through snowy towns in full war: Medieval 2.

Complete War: Medieval 2

Before there were men in full war of zombie pirates and nucleus dropping rats: Warhammer 2 had many men in armor. Total War: Medieval 2 is not only a classic from the Total War series, but it is one of the best marriages of medieval games and epic strategies.

Perhaps the unit roster is less diverse than the games that followed, but the instantly recognizable strategic application of Medieval 2 infantry, cavalry and missile units makes it a great entry point to a new player series. There are also plenty of neat features that have never reached a more recent total war game, such as a speech where the general rattles (often python-esque) before a fight.

The best medieval game - wild b person for honor in horned helmets with skull faces.

For honor

Many of the medieval games we’ve covered have focused on the strategy and simulation aspects. But honor is about immediate impacts of steel-on-steel. The Story Campaign is a feature, but for honor is primarily a dedicated PVP experience. Players choose one of several factions, including Vikings, Knights, or Samurai, and take part in the battle of fierce competitive teams who lend film talent by NPC combatants of all aspects.

Sword games are long enough to find an established and competitive community, so new players of experience can join a steep learning curve. But if Persevere is graphically impressive and rewarded with meat duels, “Would my samurai dad beat your viking dad?”, then check out Honor Review.

The best game of the Middle Ages - some aldite men with swords in black robes are plundering villages on a small island in the bad north.

Bad North

Strategic titles can recall complex interfaces within the menu, endless statistics, and menus like Matrioshka dolls. Bad North is the opposite, claiming fans added to the strategy of medieval gaming with minimal sophisticated interfaces.

Bud North builds on a stubborn genre pillar of matchups and unit positioning for Rock Paper Shessers, and confirms defending a series of procedurally generated islands from Viking invaders. The upgrades between missions and steadily increasing challenges and complexity keep things interesting. Plus, it’s lovely to watch, at least until your small, adorable soldiers are xed on their faces and the crisp, charming snow is dyed red with their guts. As I say, adorable.

The Best Medieval Games - Siege and Under the Siege of the North Guard: Clans of the Lynx.

North Guard

The eye fun of Eagle in the Viking game may sound like this is similar to the last game we listed. Yes, both contain the word “north.” And yes, they both feature the Vikings with some abilities. But while Bad North is a minimalist Roguelike game, Northgard is swooping down by a fully hatched RTS Seagull, swooping down to steal time and possibly chips.

This isn’t just one of the Build-Clicky-Attacky variety RTS games. Certainly, it has it, but there is also a embodied town management system. Recruiting can be assigned to different roles of residents, and different winning conditions allow for different playstyles. Also, if you obtain the DLC, you will have a Battle Cat. perfection.

Best Medieval Games - Persian Cities 2 in the Empire era. Some yellow banned units stand near the palace.

Empire Age 2

Age of Empires 4 may be a new game, but we still love the born and definitive edition of Age of Empires 2 for medieval combat. It’s not strictly a series of medieval games, but it handles each era so well that it’s absolutely important.

This is evidence of how well these classic titles are, and that we are talking about such a high acclaimed second game. It features classic RTS combat with large unit variety, trade and vast technology trees. It still has a rather healthy competitive scene.

The best medieval game: Conqueror's Blade. The image shows a village where people have ridden horses in the past,

Conqueror’s Blade

Conqueror’s Blade is a free-to-play MMO set in gory medieval, playing as a warlord in command of the army, leading selected units into an epic 15v15 PVP battle. You can explore the battlefield from a third person and top-down perspective and see that you narrow down any advantages from positioning. You can participate in field battles and sieges, and have great control over your fighting style thanks to the large number of weapons and units you can customize. Certainly, you can head towards a battle with swords and shields – or your warlord can exercise a glorious, mall, or quite a Japanese friend.

To raise your stake, you can join the home and become part of the more important combination power. The family is engaged in large-scale battles such as territorial wars. If you’re lucky, the flag bearer will share rewards and resources that will help you increase the power of your army.

Best Medieval Game: Grey-Haired Geralt faces a monster like a stag from The Witcher 3

The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt

Moving on the more fantastical branches of Neomedievalism, Witcher 3 is a masterclass that exploits its historic Eastern European influence, seamlessly blending multiple characteristics from later periods to present an absurd gray interpretation. This requires careful questions about every decision, as fair and moral choices can lead to the worst outcomes for Geralt in Libya.

Certainly, this fantasy RPG offers far more substance than a heartless monster kills, and its ambitious world building is backed up by an exquisite battle that is a fantastic cast and an incredibly addictive Gwent, a card game that keeps you on for hours with its clutch. Plus, there are two top-tier DLC extensions to explore, so be prepared to lock in for more than 100 hours.

Therefore, there are medieval games that are perfect for your head chopping, plate mailware, and mead charge needs. If you’re looking for games that aren’t necessarily medieval, you can focus on the best strategy game list and find alternatives worth investing in your time. If you like many military aspects of these games, it’s also worth reading the guide on the best war games.
